Benefits of a Robotic Vacuum

As many of you may know from my blog, my Husband and I have a couple of large house dogs. When I say large, I mean LARGE. We have an English Mastiff that is over 200 lbs, and an English Mastiff mix that is about 100 lbs. That's a lot of dog, and that's a lot of dog hair in the house. I have pretty severe allergies and as you can imagine, that amount of dog hair in the house doesn't help. Because of this, I vacuumed almost everyday before we got our robotic vacuum. It was frustrating, but our dogs are part of the family, so I didn't feel like I had another option.

IROBOT ROOMBA

When my Husband first recommended the robotic vacuum to make things easier on me, I was pretty skeptical. I had looked at them before, and just was not impressed with the reviews. They were expensive and at the time, didn't really seem worth the money for lackluster performance. We looked at them again, and I was pleasantly surprised by what we found. The vacuums have come a long way! Based on our research, we settled on the iRobot 562 Roomba Pet Series.

First Impressions

When the vacuum first arrived, I noticed right away how well put together it seemed. It didn't have the "cheap" feel to it that I expected. We couldn't wait to test it out, so we sprinkled a little bit of coffee grounds onto the carpet and let it go. I was SHOCKED! It actually picked them up! I can't say it did a perfect job, but it was obvious that this little thing would at least offer me a break from vacuuming everyday. And that, was worth its weight in gold.

A Year Later

We've had the iRobot Roomba for about a year now. I wouldn't trade it. I still vacuum a couple times a week, but when the Roomba is properly cleaned and maintained it does a really good job. It will never completely replace my Dyson vacuum, but I couldn't expect it to. That said, it still manages to collect a large amount of dog hair, so that it at least keeps up with their shedding. I don't feel the need to vacuum every day because of it, and that is something I am truly appreciative of. We have set the robotic vacuum up to run while we are at work. By the time we get home, the house is vacuumed and the Roomba is back at its charging station.

So Do You Recommend The Roomba?

DEFINITELY! I love this little vacuum. If you have ever considered purchasing one, I HIGHLY recommend them. They're not perfect, but they do a good enough job, you can take a break and relax instead of pushing that vacuum around again.
