ROOMBA
Picking up after your animal is very respectful to your neighbors. Nobody wants to step in unwanted material or have a bike tire slosh through a foul mess. Being a good neighbor means that you take the time to look out for others in the neighborhood, keep your home from being an eye sore, and have a good handle on your animals.
It is a very disappointing feeling when you have worked for hours on your yard only to find a swirly present in the middle of your yard. Many neighbors have even gone as far to catch the culprit by setting up surveillance on the yard to stop it from happening. If you own a pet it is your responsibility to take care of the animal and yes, that means picking up the doggy doo!
If irritating your neighbors does not bother you than maybe a dent in your check book will. Most cities have laws set up where you can get fined if caught leaving your dogs drama where it is not suppose to be. Many parks have set up a "No Pet's Allowed" policy due to negligent dog owners who do not pick up after their dog. In some parts of Texas you can be fined up to 0 for letting your dog defecate in public and snub the idea of cleaning up.
You can get baggies at the dollar store, some parks even have bag dispensers next to garbage cans, just in case you forget or have to deal with an unexpected dog surprise. Everyone has the right to enjoy the outdoors without having to encounter an unpleasant aroma or crass sight. Pick it up, save money, and make everyone happy. It is a win - win for everyone if you act as a responsible adult.
When a dog defecates it is full of bacteria that can cause disease and illness. For example, dog poop can carry E. coli, fecal coliform bacteria, salmonella and giardia. All of these bacteria can cause a lot of damage to the land around it. Beaches have been shut down due to the contamination from dog poop. Other animals will also get sick if they are not supervised and eat the other dogs fecal matter, which can be very costly and time consuming for the unaware animal.
Bottom line is that you should pick up after your animal. Nobody wants to see, smell, or deal with a person who shows such little respect for the environment. The fine is not worth disregarding a situation that can be solved in seconds. Plus, many pet stores or local markets sell gloves and other items to help make the task a little less awful. The bacteria that can spread is very harmful to our Earth, so take care of our land and pick up after your dog.
